Michael and Nikki Valdez (owners of LoneStar Pub)
give a little background information on how they got
started in the bar business;

(A Lot Of People Ask . So Here It Is...)
In 1995, Michael was asked to host a sweet sixteen birthday party for a family friend because everyone knew he always had a big
home stereo. They rented a huge building for a BIG party!! H
e had to borrow some of the CD's, and He still had nothing he does
now, but it was a great success. After this party h
e knew exactly what he wanted to do. He continued working as a truck driver
and d
o as many parties as possible in his off time. The extra money made from these parties went to buying new equipment and
music In late 2001,
They started hosting shows in small bars around the Stockyards area.
T
heir very first bar, They hosted for free drinks and tips only on a Tuesday night. After about 2 months, there was no more
Tuesday night. It was 3 to 4 nights a week and several different bars. Eventually, we had about 10 shows a week. At least one
every night of the week, so then we had to find some more DJ's to work for us. By this time, we had 2 professional sound
systems and about 3000 different karaoke titles to choose from.

With some help from a few close friends and some family members helping t
hem out remodeling and such, The Old Pink Poodle
was opened in September 2003. Michael and Nikki had the Grand Opening on October 18th, 2003 with Jimmy Lee and Blackhorse
playing on stage and 96.7 The Twister was set up handing out everything from keychains to concert tickets. It was an awesome
and PACKED night!!  Felt really bad for those beer vendors that night. It was so busy they had to park across the street and run
kegs across a 5 lane road
(28th St.). In June 2004, the land was put up for sale, so they moved across the bridge to the old
Cowtown Pub building. The name was changed to LoneStar Pub, for the Lone Star State and keeping it the Pub of course. Grand
Opening for LoneStar Pub was June 18th, 2004. There were 3 bands playing throughout the day and night. There was lots of food
andfun!!  This time, 93.3 The Bone Babes came out to support these guys. Thankfully, another  success!
Through the next year, they have again upgraded all of their sound equipment. Bands pretty much plug and play here and they
have their own sound man / DJ! Don't think Michael stays out of that DJ booth though, boys toys just get more expensive, he
loves to play!

If you missed the 3
rd Year Anniversary Party at the LoneStar Pub, you don't want to miss another party!! It blew New Year's Eve
away, and that was HUGE!! Michael and Nikki try to make everyone feel at home here. They're normally there at least 5 to 6 nights
of the week. They enjoy that everyone likes coming out to the Pub to have a great time!
Counter
Nikki became a waitress
working for tips only. When
she asked to become a
bartender, the owners, Sherry
and Bill Mowery, said okay!
Sherry put her behind the bar
on a busy Friday night and
said, "you'll learn the way I
did,the hard way". Nikki got her
butt kicked that night, but
never gave up. She was there
Saturday night ready for some
more. This is how she
learnedeverything she knows
about bartending.
After a while, Nikki began asking
more questions about ordering
liquor, vendors, TABC, and the ins
and outs of the bar business. Both
Michael and Nikki had always been
interested in the bar business.
Michael has that passion for music
and sound and Nikki grew up
being in her grandfathers bar in
Tennessee. When Sherry decided
to sell the bar we played in for 2
years, Michael and Nikki were
given the first opportunity over
anyone else. It was their home just
as much as it was Sherry's.
Michael and Nikki discussed it for
all of about 5 minutes, and
took a leap.
